SPARTANS Project
Sound Propagation and Acoustic Radiation of Turbomachines - Aeroacoustic Noise Suppression Project is a CFD-like CAA code for predicting turbomachines noise.
The SPARTANS Project team is working on developing a CAA code of acoustic wave propagation in complex 2D and 3D geometries in presence of flow with a direct application in turbomachinery. The code consists in solving a perturbed linearized Euler’s equations around an uniform flow in a first step, and then around a non-uniform (steady) flow, in 2D and 3D configurations. The next step, which is more difficult, consists in taking into account the motion of rotors. Two configurations are in study, the first one concerns a deforming mesh configuration, and the second one concerns a sliding mesh configuration with interfaces like CFX or Fluent. As numerical method we use high order flux reconstruction finite volume method with unstructured grids.
